How do I schedule an appointment?

To schedule an appointment, you can contact us via phone (0437 997 404), email (admin@luminositypsychology.com.au) or through our website BOOK HERE tab at the top of this page . We will guide you through the process, discuss your needs, and find a suitable time for your initial session.

Do I need a referral to see a psychologist?

No, you do not need a referral to see a psychologist. You can contact us directly to schedule an appointment. However, if you have a Mental Health Care Plan or referral from a GP or another healthcare professional, please bring it to your first session.

What is a Mental Health Care Plan?

Under Medicare's Better Access to Mental Health Care initiative, a Mental Health Care Plan is designed to support your mental health. It's a collaboration between you and your GP (General Practitioner) to ensure you get the right kind of help. Here's how it works:

  1. Visit your GP: If you're struggling with your mental health, talk to your GP. They will have a conversation with you to understand your situation better.

  2. Creating the Plan: Your GP will work with you to create a Mental Health Care Plan. This plan outlines the support and treatment that might be beneficial for you.

  3. Choosing a professional: Your GP might recommend a psychologist or another mental health professional based on your needs.

  4. Accessing rebates: With a Mental Health Care Plan, you will be eligible to receive a rebate of $96.65 for 10 sessions in a calendar year (January-December).

If you have a Mental Health Care Plan, please send it across prior to your first session.

What can I expect during the first session?

The first session is an assessment where we discuss your concerns, personal history, and therapy goals. It's also an opportunity for you to ask questions and determine if you feel comfortable working with us. Together, we will create a plan tailored to your needs.

How long does a typical therapy session last?

A standard therapy session is 50 minutes. The frequency of sessions will vary based on individual needs and treatment goals.

How much does a session cost, and do you offer bulk billing? Can I use my health insurance?

Our fees are $203 for a 50 minute session. This is considerably lower than the Australian Association of Psychologists recommended fee is $315 for 40-60 minutes.

We do not bulk bill at this time, however under a Mental Health Care Plan you will be eligible to receive a rebate of $96.65 for 10 sessions in a calendar year (January-December).

Please check with your health insurance provider to determine if you are covered for psychology. If so, this will allow you to claim money back after the session.

Are Telehealth sessions available?

Yes, we offer telehealth sessions for those who prefer online consultations. Telehealth provides flexibility and accessibility, ensuring you can receive support from the comfort of your own space.

What if I need to cancel or reschedule an appointment?

We understand that life can be unpredictable however we have a strict 24 hour cancellation period.

  • If you cancel or reschedule outside the 24 hour time period you will incur no fee.

  • If you cancel or reschedule within the 24 hour time period, then you may incur a full session cancellation fee of $203. Please note - if your appointment is on a Monday you MUST cancel or reschedule on the Friday prior.

Why do you have a cancellation policy?

We are very upfront with our cancellation fees. Enforcing cancellation fees means people are more likely to attend their appointments and continue working on their treatment plans. A late cancellation means three people are impacted - yourself, the clinician (who has spent time planning and getting ready for your session) and other clients who are on the waitlist who are unable attend on short notice.

We remind all clients of our cancellation policy. We ensure clients have opportunity to cancel or reschedule their appointments if needed with two reminder emails and one text message reminder.

Adequate compensation for our clinician’s time means they can invest in their professional development, look after their own mental health and provide support both presently and professionally for clients.
